Church of the Ascension

Moscow, Russia
4.8 / 88
tserkov-vozneseniya-gospodnya
The temple of the XVI century on the banks of the Moscow River in the park complex in Kolomenskoye. Presumably, the Italian architect Petrok Maly participated in the construction of the building. The church is one of the first examples of stone tent churches in Russia. The construction was built in the form of an equilateral cross with a 62-meter bell tower. The architecture of the temple is considered unique.

We went on a Monday. The park was closed. There was maintenance work going on. No guidance on how to go about the place. No one speaks English. I wonder if all Russia is even interested in getting non Russian tourists!!

A really nice place, I think this is the first church built with this type of steeple structure. Take a good walk in the park too.
