St. Cyril's Church is an incredible place filled with art and a gorgeous atmosphere. It's a must-see for anyone visiting Kyiv, especially for those interested in Ukrainian history, culture, or Christian religion. The church boasts preserved original fresco paintings from the 12th century, which are absolutely breathtaking. Additionally, it houses original paintings by Vrubel from the 19th century. Many visitors recommend taking a tour with a guide to fully appreciate the church's beauty. The second floor of the church is also worth a visit, as it offers a closer look at the Transfiguration painting on the ceiling. Despite its beauty and historical significance, St. Cyril's Church is often overlooked by tourists, making it a peaceful and calm place to visit. However, it is important to note that the church is located a little outside of the city center and requires a metro and trolleybus ride. Nevertheless, the journey is well worth it, as you will be greeted with a monastery and church that dates back to the Kievan Rus' period. The Ukrainian Baroque facade from the 18th century adds to the architectural beauty of the church. The staff and clerics at St. Cyril's Church have unfortunately received negative feedback for being rude and physically harassing parishioners. Finally, it is interesting to note that this unique church is situated in the middle of a mental clinic, adding to its unusual and intriguing nature.

Mural artwork on walls in church ranges from exceptionally old to the 17/1800s... I believe. The older art is fragile or even only partially remaining in some cases as it might no longer exist due to decay, is in a state of rehab, or has been painte.. Read more »
