Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin

The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin is a wonderful cathedral located in the heart of the city. Upon entering from the right side, visitors are greeted by the church business before proceeding to the icons to light a candle and pray. The church was originally built in 1810 as a result of a generous gift from Nikolaev's merchants and through the initiative of Archduke Karp Pavlovsky. Situated in the historic part of Nikolaev, the cathedral holds significant historical value. However, the cathedral has faced its fair share of challenges throughout history. In 1922, church valuables were removed from the cathedral to support a fund for the hungry. During the following years, the authorities removed the bells and eventually closed the cathedral. Fortunately, it was saved from destruction and later reconstructed to serve as a garrison house for officers. In 1992, the cathedral was transferred to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. For many people, this cathedral holds personal significance. It is a place where children have been baptized and a frequent destination for individuals seeking solace. The location is convenient, and the overall atmosphere is pleasant. Sunday services are held at 7:00 and 9:00 in the morning, allowing the parishioners to be divided into two groups. Stepping inside, time seems to stand still, and the air feels different. Thoughts and emotions find harmony, providing a space to breathe and truly live. Overall, the feedback about the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin is positive. Visitors appreciate the architecture, the atmosphere, and the restoration efforts. However, some individuals express frustration with the commercialization of the church, particularly the sale of honey within its premises. Nonetheless, the clergy is highly regarded for their politeness and helpfulness, with prayers for their health and well-being.
