The place where Vasilievsky Island divides the river. Neva into two parts and as if crashes into the water. There are many buildings of different eras and architectural styles, which makes this place a real open-air museum. Of particular interest are the rostral columns of red-brown color, decorated with ship's noses. The structures functioned as beacons for ships until the end of the 19th century.

Awesome 35 meter high columns with boats and beautiful decorations on them ❤️ near Palace Bridge and L'Ermitage. There is a fire lit on top of them of there is a national activity going on in St Petersburg, e.g. national football match or nation.. Read more »al celebrations. Towers are built in the style of Roman Rostral (victory) columns to which captured enemy ships were mounted. On the top of the columns are 4 statues for Russia's major rivers - the Volga, Dnieper, Neva and Volkhov. Columns are decorated with naiads, sea creatures and anchors. ⚓⛵?♀️?

Two interesting structures to see on the east side of Vasilievsky Island are the red coloured Rostral Columns which flank the Central Naval Museum. You can see these 32 metre tall towers quite clearly from the Neva Embankment across the river as well.. Read more » as from ferries making way to Petershof, which pass by Vasilievsky.
The rostral columns were erected in 1811 on both sides of what was then the Stock Exchange building. They are deep red in colour and include four pairs of bronze ship prows protruding the sides of the columns. These make for peculiar and attractive tower structures.
There is additional decorative features near its base of the rostral columns which can be viewed conveniently from up close. Otherwise, you can enjoy just enjoy seeing the towers from afar during visits to other areas of St. Petersburg mentioned above.

Nice place to enjoy in the afternoon with a breeze slowly hitting your face. Many food trucks nearby, so no worry if you need any warm drink and snacks. Best place to solo traveller like me, but even better if you bring your love one here.
