The powder formulations of Jan de Witte are unfortunately in an unrestored state, but they possess a captivating and intriguing atmosphere. The ruins are magnificent and evoke a sense of awe. It is regrettable that the place has been abandoned, as it holds a certain level of interest and an eerie vibe. It is a location that may appeal to amateur history enthusiasts. However, it does not rank among the top 10 attractions in Kamianets-Podilskyi. The experience of exploring the warehouses and witnessing the remnants of the past is quite cool. While the historical significance of the site is undeniable, it is not well-maintained and has fallen into ruin. In comparison to other notable sites in Kamenets, it may not be as grand or impressive, but it still deserves a visit. This unrated place adds to the overall atmosphere of the town and is a must-visit to fully immerse oneself in its historical ambiance. The entire area is overgrown with grass, but it holds a rich history. It would be beneficial if some effort was made to cultivate and maintain the site. Please note that as of July 2020, the overgrowth of weeds made it challenging to locate the exact site.

Of course, compared to other attractions in Kamenets, this is inferior in size and not so impressive, but worth a visit.

The beginning of the construction of powder warehouses dates back to 1778: then the fortifications of the city were modernized, and it was decided to build larger warehouses to store the reserves of powder. To secure them, the warehouses were built in a canyon on the outskirts of the city, near the river, so that in the event of a fire it would be possible to quickly draw water. The architect was a military engineer Jan de Witte, but he failed to complete it, so Captain Petro Zavadsky continued construction. The structure is a single-storey rectangular structure 44 meters long and more than 20 meters wide. Some units have rectangular windows. The height of the building is about four meters, a thick layer of earth is piled on top. The thickness of the walls is preferably 1.8 meters. Shelves were placed inside the walls. From 1812 the house was empty because it was no longer needed. In 1834, the reconstruction under the direction of architect Simeon Uchata took place. In the XIX-XX centuries, a number of redevelopments were also carried out, so to this day only one oriental risolite has been preserved. Of the nine window openings, only two are preserved, and the original facade decoration is almost completely lost. The stone fence of 1834 has also been rebuilt several times, and its original appearance is almost impossible to determine now.
Powder depots are located in the floodplain of the river Smotrich, just at the turn. Historical literature has suggested that the warehouses were built in 1730, whether on the site of earlier or near them.
In 1778-1779 warehouses have been significantly rebuilt, probably ...
Designed by military engineer and architect Jan de Witte. In 1779 the roof was reconstructed.
Description: Stone, single-storey building, rectangular in plan, elongated east-west, with two corners cut off and two risalites on the north facade. (The length of the warehouses is 44 m, the width is 21.5 m.)
In 1834, a major renovation work was carried out on the project of architect Simon Uchuta, with a partial reconstruction, the area extended in the south direction and marked with a wall, and a gate was arranged on the north and east sides. Stones from the dismantled Polish Gate Gate were used for the fence. In the first half of the 19 century. used as outbuildings for military purposes, warehouses.
In 1862, the building was damaged by a fire caused by the oil outbreak. After repair it was used for stables, later again under warehouses. Until the end of the 1970s, they were used under food warehouses by the Miskarchotorg.
