The history of the zoo dates back to 1901, when the mayor Nikolai Leontovich founded his private collection. Since 1978, the zoo has been located in a new place - next to the Central Bus Station (on the site of the old city cemetery). Currently occupies an area of 20.38 ha. Nikolaev Zoo is considered the best in Ukraine, and one of the best in Europe.

Great place which needs support. When you look at the prices in ₴, it is pretty much nothing in CAD, USD, Euros
My recommendation is if you are far away, buy some tickets and support them in these difficult conditions.

Animals were in very poor condition. Many did not have water. Polar bears behaviors were definitely something that needs attention. I felt horrible ?

A big zoo with very lovely animals. They seem to be well taken care of. But some cages are too small... Especially for those species that need a lot of space for running, flying etc. ? And it smells so badly around here! The zoo should be cleaned mor.. Read more »e thoroughly. Besides, the buildings look quite old and rustic and really need to be renovated. I hope that the funding will be increased soon and they will be able to improve this place.

Pleasant experience for my boys. They enjoyed seeing all the animals. I know this is one of the better zoos in Ukraine... natural habitats, etc., and we chose a nice day to visit -- not hot! There is plenty of shade from trees throughout the park... Read more » However, you just can't compare to U.S. zoos. The smell is pretty bad and I think more could be done about that. Overall, though, it is a great activity idea in Mykolaiv.

It's a really nice place to visit! But sometimes there are empty cages with no animals in them. But, it imroves by every year. I hope it will be better in the future.
