The zoo is considered one of the best in Europe. Like many modern zoos, it is built on the principle of a natural park, that is, conditions are created for animals as close as possible to natural ones. The biological diversity of Hellabrunn is impressive - more than 750 species of animals and about 20 thousand individuals. The zoo is popular; 1.8 million people visit it annually.

One of the best zoos we have ever been too.
It is clear that the animals are very well cared for. They were healthy with spaces very well adapted to their needs. The spaces are also big enough, what you don’t always see in a zoo in a big city.

The baby meerkats are the cutest thing you have ever seen!! The polar bears were very impressive as well.
And this for a very good entry price.
For families you also have two petting zoos and a lot of playgrounds.
Only the souvenirs were quite expensive, but that compensates for the lower entry price.
I would definitely recommend a visit, certainly with children (but adults will love it too).

It is the best place to take your babies and kids for a day out. This park is equipped with nice playgrounds, picnic spots, restaurants, coffee places and ice cream to go. Also, the park is fairly accessible with wheelchairs and strollers.

The animals are able to come quite close to you and seem to want to do so. I’ve never seen animals move around in a zoo so animatedly and it was truly lovely.
We got to see some polar bears eating and a baby elephant playing with his family. One of the wild horses was also rolling in the dirt and having a play.
We also saw some seagulls in the walk through aviary, which is funny to us, as they are super common everywhere in the UK. But I assume much less so in Munich!
The amount of play areas for children and cafe / food options was also amazing. I would love to come back here. My photos are not great, I am sure that others can do this wonderful place justice. I’m just not a great photographer!
I also think that compared to many attractions, this place is very good value for money. It was 18€ per adult when we visited.

I’ve been to others zoos and this one seemed smaller in comparison, both in size and on how many animals they have. Specially the felines I was not lucky in the day I visited: all sleeping or hidden. It was a very fun experience, the animals were partially sleeping or hidden at times but we just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time because the zoo offers commented feedings of some of the animals such as tigers, pelicans, sea lions.. Sadly we didn't catch any of them but it was due to our own bad planning?
Tip: If you want to skip long waiting times at the entrance, get there as early as possible or later than 12pm but by that time most feedings are over.

Lovely zoo, tickets are a bit expensive but it is worth it, enclosures are really nicely decorated, and we spent around 3 hours slowly walking around watching the animals. Wonderful day out. Kids loved it. Not too expensive. My only gripe is that not all the paths are wheelchair friendly, Cobbles, and wheelchair users know how hard it is on cobbles. But otherwise the disabled access is great.
