The Merefo-Khersonskyi Bridge is a stunning architectural monument located in the city of Dnieper. It is a high arched bridge that stretches across the Dnieper River and Monastyrsky Island. The bridge is known for its unique design and is considered one of the longest arched bridges in the world.
Although there is no pedestrian part on the bridge, it is still a memorable sight to behold. The pillars of the bridge were built in the early 20th century, giving it a distinct historical charm. It is fascinating to see the contrast between the older pillars and the rest of the bridge, which was completed in the 1930s.
The bridge is often referred to as the business card of Dnepropetrovsk, as it showcases the impressive architecture of the city. It is a popular spot for visitors, especially those crossing the pedestrian bridge to Monastyrsky Island to see the monument to T.G. Shevchenko.
Occasionally, trains pass along the bridge, but the traffic is not intense. Watching these trains go by can be an exhilarating experience, with hundreds of tons of iron riding over you. It is one of the few railroad bridges with such a curvature, making it even more unique.
Surrounded by the serene beauty of the Dnieper River and Monastyrsky Island, the Merefo-Khersonskyi Bridge offers a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. Although the surrounding area may be a bit dirty, the bridge itself is a true gem that leaves a lasting impression.
Overall, the Merefo-Khersonskyi Bridge is a must-visit destination for those who appreciate beautiful architecture and want to experience a historical monument. Its distinctive design and unique location make it a significant landmark in the city of Dnieper.

Merefo-Kherson Bridge is a complicated but very beautiful name. The bridge is definitely a symbol of the city, along with such objects as the Parus hotel, the Float restaurant or the famous circus, etc.
It is a unique and the only railway bridge in .. Read more »Europe that has a curved path and is an architectural monument.
Construction began back in 1914 and it was originally planned to make it a two-tier building - for trains, vehicles and pedestrians.
Until 1916, all 22 bridge supports were installed, however, the project was frozen, the First World War made its own adjustments.
Only in 1929, the Soviet government announced an all-Union competition for the best project to complete the grandiose structure.
For the first time in the history of bridge building, monolithic reinforced concrete was used.
The workers showed labor heroism, striving to hand over the bridge ahead of schedule.
35 reinforced concrete arches and both metal spans of 52 meters each were built in just seven months. On October 24, 1932, at 15:30, the last cubic meter of concrete was laid. And two months later, a unique bridge across the Dnieper River was put into operation. It was built in less than a year and a half, 1610 meters long.
During the Second World War, it was destroyed, many German and Italian soldiers willingly took pictures against the backdrop of the ruins.
And when the Nazis nevertheless restored it, it was named after Colonel General von Kleist, and he personally visited the opening of his bridge.
However, retreating German troops again destroyed the "concrete giant" and our workers were already engaged in restoration. For which about 50 million rubles and 30,000 cubic meters of high-quality concrete were spent.
Until the 50s, machine-gun teams were on duty here and it was forbidden to approach the bridge.
Another interesting fact, there were two bridges) One is already known to everyone and the second is a test model, a fragment of which became an observation deck near the monument to Taras Shevchenko, and later in the 90s a restaurant was made from this fragment, it is still there)
Also, during the construction of the bridge, the workers created a whole village for themselves, consisting of barracks and occupying half of the island, it existed until the 1960s, in its place now there is a zoo zone and a sector with attractions.
The Merefo-Kherson bridge managed to appear in several films, for example, in the film "Height" in 1957 and in the famous film by Nikita Mikhalkov - "Kin" which was mainly filmed in the Dnieper.
P.s. the river is very clean at this time, so unusual, but very beautiful)
