The main St. Petersburg opera stage, one of the iconic cultural places of the city. The theater appeared in the middle of the XIX century by decree of Alexander II, who wished to give him a name in honor of his wife Maria Alexandrovna. The master Alberto Cavos worked on the project. The Mariinsky productions are very popular among foreign tourists, many people come here with pleasure to listen to the real Russian opera.

Amazing theater full of history. Great sound and interior is wonderful. Saw here Don Quixote ballet which was superb. A perfect stop for a perfect evening
Exceptional experience! You feel like in a fairy tail. For 3 hours you forget the whole world and enjoy the ballet. Amazing dancers, beautiful interior.
I saw Swan Lake here! For concessions, they only take cash - so beware. I recommend finding the bathrooms before the show starts and USING them - they get very crowded during intermission as does any theater. Beautiful building and a fantastic perfor.. Read more »
Magnificent building. Although a bit difficult to navigate inside. It took us good 10 minutes to figure out where our seat is since all the signs are in russian. We watched Swan Lake and it was a spectacle unlike any other. I hope I will get the cha.. Read more »
Marvellous place. Tiny but chic. Russian classic! Don't say you've been to St. Petersburg until you've seen ballet there. Don't forget to dress up ;-)
Really just amazing and so historical. Don't miss out on this experience. If you go to an opera like I did, make sure that you get a good nights rest the day before or you will DIE when you watch it.
Actually it was Mariinsky 2 Great performance Cinderella Stunning building Having said that, its not necessary to buy the expensive tickets as I did since the theater is so well designed, you get great views from everywhere
