Lizogub's house in Chernihiv
The Lyzohub House is one of the few examples of Ukrainian residential architecture of the late 17th century that has survived to this day. In plan it is a rectangle. The building is 21 meters long and .. Read more »16 meters wide. Small "white" and "black" vestibules divide the house into male (western) and female (eastern) halves, each with two rooms. This is a developed plan of a typical Ukrainian "hut in two halves". Under the rooms there is a six-chamber cellar, the entrance to which was first located in one of the inner walls, and the stairs to the other led to the attic. It is quite possible that the house began to be built as a two-storey one, which is also evidenced by the high end gables with windows.
The house has a rich decorative finish of the facades, which distinguishes it from other similar buildings. The plastic processing of the facades was used, where the pilaster blades at the corners and at the intersections of the walls, patterned pediments, multi-profile cornices and other details. The decorative finishing of the facades is built on the principle of increasing plasticity and details from the eastern through the southern and western facades to the northern - main one. The decoration of the facades is enriched and complicated from the eastern facade to the western and main northern ones. The masterful use of the possibilities of brick is a characteristic feature of the architecture of the Left Bank of Ukraine in the 17th - 18th centuries, which continues the ancient Russian tradition begun in the ornamental lace of the brickwork of the Spassky Cathedral, the Pyatnitskaya Church and others.
