The museum complex, which tells about the history of the legendary Solidarity movement. This association formed as a union in the 1980s. Just a few days later, its members began to confront the communist government of Poland. In a short time, about 80% of working citizens joined Solidarity. In fact, the European Center of Solidarity is one of the “anti-Soviet” museums that exist in every former ATS member country.

The headphones are a bit annoying (huge &flimsy), but the audio guide was brilliant and the exhibits are very creatively placed. Lots of different.. Read more » objects (pieces of clothing, lockers, posters, cars, photos, videos, cartoons). The museum’s interior and exterior is impressive as well and bears symbolism. We decided to take the shorter audio guide (1,5 hour) and we felt it was plenty for us; it helped us skip a few exhibits, but the storyline was still solid. You can take a longer one that probably would tell you a lot more about all the exhibits.

Starting in the shipyard of Gdansk, right where the museum is placed, an overview of the first strike of Solidarity is captivating and detailed.
All aspects of Polish society and their yearning for freedom are highlighted, during periods of strikes, a military junta and brotherhood found through faith via "their" Pope, John Paul II.
The significance of figures, like Lech Walesa in particular, who struggle for a brighter future, we can only support and have hope for a united Europe and world. Creating a path towards freedom and solidarity for all.

A little irritating is the really positive picture of the pope and the catholic church. Also the counterpart to soviet rule - the western capitalist system is portraited in a very narrowed and only positive way.
