The temple is dedicated to Saint Nicholas - the patron saint of Alicante. It was erected on the ruins of a mosque in the 17th century. The building was built in a transitional style from the Renaissance to the Baroque, which is distinguished by its restrained architectural forms. The cathedral is crowned with an imposing 45-meter dome, marble is predominant in the interior decoration. The 16th century church altar created by master N. Borras deserves special attention. The temple contains the relics of St. Francis Xavier, Felicita and Roch.

The views are amazing! Definitely need to visit here if you are near by. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of up heel walking.

Beautiful, peaceful space. Interesting history (look for evidence of having been hit by artillery fire on the exterior wall), and a gorgeous garden cloister if you are lucky enough to see the huge doors on the left side of the church open during summ.. Beautiful catholic cathedral in the middle of the old quarter of Alicante. It closes in the middle of the day so be sure to check the hours before you go. Just down the street is a little gelato shop that is amazing!
