The palace complex is located in the vicinity of St. Petersburg in the city of Pushkin. Until the beginning of the 20th century, it was called the Grand Tsarskoye Selo Palace. The first royal house arose here in the first half of the 18th century. Expansion began in the 1750s. during the reign of Elizabeth led by architect Rastrelli. The palace was built in the classical Baroque style, in the lush interior interiors dominated by elements of Rococo.

Read more »o. a lot of tourist visiting here during the summer. still pretty cold even visit on summer time, they have a lot of souvenir ship around the palace too. And the tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. Its very unforgettable experience I guess.

The palace is marvelous, even though after a while all Russian great palaces start to look the same on the interior. The excursion path is rather short and quick, it took us only an hour without the guide.

I only visited the park in which I had to spend 2-3 hours to have a tour by walking. Better come here during spring or summer, but it was still enjoyable to wander about the park. The whole complex consists of many pavilions, buildings, mosque, churc.. Read more »h and the palace itself. The palace itself looks amazing from the outside. Unfortunately, it was very expensive for foreign tourists to enter into the palace but the park was free. I haven't seen such a discrimination in any attraction so far in my life. Totally unfair.

Very nice. Despite the fact that it was completely renovated after II WW, it gives great opportunity to see how leaders of Russian Empire were living. Very beautiful palace, rich decoration. Marble room is something really worth seeing.

Follo.. Read more »wing the Great Northern War, Russia recovered the farm called Saari Mojs (a high place) or Sarskaya Myza, which resided on a hill 65 m in elevation. In 1710, Peter the Great gave the estate to his wife Catherine I, the village of which was initially called Sarskoye Selo, and then finally Tsarskoye Selo (Tsar's Village). In 1723, Catherine I's Stone Palace, designed by Johann Friedrich Braunstein and built by Johann Ferster, replaced the original wooden house. This was a two-story sixteen-room building, with state chambers finished in polished alabaster, while the upper one included Gobelin tapestry. The southeast portion of the estate included a garden designed by Jan Roosen, with terraces, stone staircases, parterres, trellised arbours, and ponds, while a menagerie was located on the opposite of the estate.

Visited here in Winter - it was snowing and gloomy, and way too cold to walk around the park, unfortunately. Nonetheless, the palace was extremely grand and opulent, with extremely intricate detail in the architecture.
It is quite a distance away fr.. Read more »om the city centre though - if you only have a couple of days, the Hermitage has a similarly grand and beautifully embellished architecture. Though perhaps in summer time it will be nice to walk around the entire park complex!
