House of the Mykolaiv Diocesan Brotherhood

The House of the Mykolaiv Diocesan Brotherhood is a stunning architectural marvel located in Chernihiv. It showcases a unique non-Russian style of architecture, which was popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Constructed between 1911 and 1912, the building encompasses a chapel that was originally built in 1870 to honor Alexander Nevsky. Throughout its history, the building has served various purposes. From the late 1910s to early 1920s, it housed the Governor's Political Department and military-political courses for Red Army commanders. Later on, it was utilized by the educational sector. Between 1932 and the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the building became home to a Ukrainian music and drama theater. Unfortunately, during the German occupation in August 1941, the theater was destroyed by a bomb. However, it was restored in the postwar years, with the addition of a third floor above the former chapel. In 1985, tents were also restored above the entrances, adding to the grandeur of the building. Since 1964, the House of the Mykolaiv Diocesan Brotherhood has been housing the Chernihiv Regional Philharmonic Center of Festivals and Concert Programs. It continues to be a hub for cultural events and performances, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of the region.
