An architectural monument of the 16th century, listed by UNESCO. The tower was erected in honor of the opening of Vasco da Gama to India, at different times it housed: a defensive fort, a powder warehouse, a prison, and a customs point. The construction was erected in the unique Portuguese style of Manuelino, almost lost by the XIX century. The facade and interior of the tower are decorated with priceless monuments of the era of great geographical discoveries.

The tower itself is very evocative from the outside, truly a beautiful view. However when you get inside you see absolutely nothing.
On the ground floor you see just a few cannons. The first floor is the best, as you are just next to the crenellations of the tower and have a view of the inner part. On the other two floors the only thing you do is look outside the window.
There is nothing written, you don’t get to read anything about the history of the place. There is absolutely nothing to do, nothing to see. The rooms are completely empty, not even a box with jewels, clothing or the usual things you can find in these sites.
It’s really sad: they could make it more interesting by adding small things but it feels like no one cares about it.
