Gothic church of the late 14th century, located on the site of a former mosque. The temple was founded in honor of the expulsion of the Moors and the liberation of this part of Spain from Arab rule. In later centuries, the basilica was rebuilt in the Spanish Baroque style. Inside the church is a gilded altar from the 18th century and a valuable organ from the 16th century. The interior is decorated with elaborate statues of St. John and the Virgin Mary.

A beautiful church with jaw dropping altar. The audio guide came in different languages for foreign tourists; a good overview and insight into the history of the church. Inexpensive price. Also contained fascinating pieces of art. A minor inconvenien.. Read more »

very cozy and lovely church with a long history, it was a mosque in the past years but destroyed and then they started to made church in 14th century and that finished in 15th century. We visited a wedding there and it was lovely ?

This church is one of the oldest on town, build on mosque remains It is situated in the very heart of the city center and few meters away you have the museum of fine art ! Must visit during your stay in Alicante

5 minute stroll from our hotel. Free entry, but no photos allowed of inside. Was probably the warmest church I've ever been in! Beautifully ornate altar and brickwork in the entrance. Just what I go to see when visiting. ?
