Tbilisi International Airport is a smaller airport that caters to the needs of travelers. Despite its size, the airport offers a decent selection of shops, cafes, and lounges, creating a pleasant atmosphere for waiting passengers. The airport is clean and well-maintained, with friendly staff and a decent range of amenities. However, it could benefit from more dining and shopping options. The airport can feel a bit crowded during peak travel times. The immigration process is smooth, and officials are helpful. The airport is easily accessible from the city center, either by taxi or by bus. While the airport may not be the best in terms of global standards, it serves its purpose for the country and provides a satisfactory gateway to Georgia. However, some travelers feel that Tbilisi deserves a better and larger airport with more connectivity options.

Upon arrival on a weekday at 3am in the morning, we encountered a huge mess at passport control, having to wait over 2 hours on a totally disorganized queue where people were fighting with each other to advance while the brainless staff just stood there and look instead of setting up some line ropes to organize the line (see photo - that was the “line”).
Upon departure, we had the most overpriced coffee we ever had at an airport, more expensive than Singapore, Dubai, or any other expensive airport one can think of. Let alone trying to buy a souvenir, where they charge e.g. €18 for a small ashtray or €10 for a tiny magnet. Again, probably the most expensive souvenir shop i’ve ever been to.
All of this topped by a jarring lack of hospitality. These people are just plain RUDE. They do not know how to smile or say please & thank you. Most of them show the same attitude, as if you were bothering them for asking for a napkin with your croissant.
Avoid this airport at all costs. I’d recommend trying to enter Georgia by car/train - or maybe just skip this country altogether.

There are a good amount of gift shops, cafes, and decent amount of seats throughout the airport. There seemed to be no airconditioning throughout the airport so it did warm up pretty quickly as well. Majority of things went smoothly but I couldn’t help but notice that the immigration guy I had was unpleasant to deal with. After stamping my passport he just threw my passport and just had an overall disrespectful attitude. Besides that, everthing seemed to be organized and clean enough.
I recommend that if you can, to not get a taxi or exchange money at the airport and instead just book a Bolt car because the rates aren’t great and they may charge you in Euros. There’s a cafe before immigration and there’s a Wendy’s and other fast food restaurants once you pass immigration as well. Overall, the airport isn’t the best but it’s still alright. Secondly, after waiting for 30 minutes in a line, our friends were not let in the check because they had digital boarding passes and had to go down to print them. (What airport in the 21st century requires a printed ticket?)
Last but not least a blatantly racist security check. If you are not white, prepare to be under extra scrutiny. They checked my passport for 15 minutes, and had 4 different people coming in to take a look at me and my girlfriend. The policewoman was even obviously writing on WhatsApp to figure out what to do with us. This pattern repeated with other not-so “white” folks that I saw in other lines.
