Sadyba Kharytonenka
Sumy, Ukraine

Sadyba Kharytonenka is a historical estate located in Sumy, Ukraine. It was owned by Pavlo Ivanovych Kharitonenko, a prominent philanthropist, sugar breeder, entrepreneur, and industrialist in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known as the "sugar king," Kharitonenko played a significant role in the economic and cultural development of the Sumy region.
Kharitonenko's legacy is marked by his generous patronage and financial support for various projects. He contributed to the construction of notable architectural landmarks in Sumy, such as the Trinity Cathedral, the cadet corps premises, and the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, designed by Karl Scholz. He also sponsored the well-known monument to Bohdan Khmelnytsky in Kyiv.
In addition to his contributions to architecture, Kharitonenko was dedicated to supporting education and healthcare. He provided tuition assistance to impoverished students, including those at the Moscow Conservatory. He also financed the construction of hospitals and schools.
Sadyba Kharytonenka is a beautifully designed estate with a rich historical background. Unfortunately, it is currently in need of restoration. Despite promises of renovation, progress has been slow and the estate remains fenced off. However, the location still retains its beauty and tranquility, situated on the banks of a picturesque river. Many people are unaware of the estate's existence, but those who do know recognize its potential as a truly remarkable place that deserves attention and preservation.
