Located in Lutsk, Puzyna House is the oldest residential building in the city. While you can't explore its interior due to the current residents, the house has an endearing and well-maintained appearance. It is a two-storey structure that was built in the late 16th century, with its architecture reflecting its original defensive purpose. Experts believe that one of its walls, which is remarkably two meters thick, served as an extension of the surrounding Castle wall. Named after the Orthodox bishop of Lutsk from the 17th century, Puzina House was initially owned by wealthy citizen Andriy Zagorovsky. Throughout its history, it has been privately owned and has seen various notable families as its inhabitants, including the Gulevych family and Lutsk Catholic bishop Falchevsky. Today, the medieval walls house four families. The ownership of the building has caused some controversy between the residents, the management of the Old Lutsk Reserve, and the city council. There is a disagreement over the dilapidated state of the building, with the owners demanding compensation for the purchase of four two-room apartments. However, the city authorities claim to lack the necessary funds for such a transaction. This issue has strained relationships among the parties involved, as potential patrons prefer investing in castles or churches rather than providing support for what they perceive as overpriced private needs. Puzyna House holds great historical significance as one of the oldest dwellings in Lutsk. It was given the status of a national monument during Soviet rule and received some restoration efforts in 2006. However, the building has not been properly repaired in the past three decades. The current mayor of Lutsk, Mykola Romanyuk, plans to repair the facade of the building to preserve its appearance for tourists, but it will require significant financial resources. Despite the limitations on access, Puzyna House remains a fascinating sight to behold. Its age and the fact that people still live in it make it even more impressive. Although it raises questions about the living conditions within, the building's exterior is well-maintained considering its age. Its proximity to the castle ensures that you will likely notice it when passing by. Overall, it is an unusual and intriguing sight in Lutsk.
