They are located on Independence Square in the center of the capital. The design is neoclassical, has three large and two small spans on the sides. The facade is adorned with a sculptural group and an inscription that perpetuates the name of Charles III. In the seventeenth century the gate to Alcala de Henares passed through the gate. The monument became one of the symbols of the modernization of Madrid in the era of Charles III.

This is an open-air point of interest. There are no tickets needed to my knowledge. Currently, it is under construction and blocked from view by a construction wall with a photo of the Puerta de Alcalá (see picture). The covering does give you.. Read more » a feel for its grandeur. Although Puerta de Alcalá is under maintenance, that Complete Printed Curtain Wall make another sort of art to passengers. That’s another good sign from Madrid government, economic is good and have budgets to make it.

Disappointing that this is closed for renovation and no one mentions it. The Puerta is covered with a tarp bearing it's likeness. Will be for months. Puerta de Toledo is not as majestic but is open.

We were very disappointed when we got to the monument, and saw that it was under renovation. It is completely wrapped in sheeting that has the picture of the monument on it. I've included a picture to better show what I mean.

This neoclassical granite arch was designed by Francesco Sabatini, the very first built in EU after the fall of the Roman Empire. It's a precursor of Paris.. This iconic landmark is popular so expect other people to be taking pictures. Usually people line up to take turns.
Be very aware of your surroundings as you take a picture as it's a busy roundabout & you wouldn't want to have an accident just for a picture.

The gate is wonderful. Wonderful architecture and art. However, I wouldn’t say it’s anything too special to warrant planning a trip. It’s located in an busy traffic circle so I couldn’t get too close to it.
