Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is described as one of the nicest airports with plenty of food options and ample seating. It is well-organized and easy to navigate with electronic displays showing departing flights. The airport is well-connected to public transportation, particularly trains, which is the recommended option for reaching the heart of Rome. While the airport has undergone restructuring and modernization, some areas can be dark and antique. There are decent restaurants and shopping kiosks available. However, the gate for security checks and immigration can be chaotic during busy hours, and some staff members struggle with clear directions and English communication. Travelers are advised to be cautious of pickpockets outside the terminal area. The airport staff is generally courteous, but there have been reports of unapologetic behavior and lack of assistance in certain situations. The airport features clean and modern toilets, but English-speaking individuals may be limited. Baggage storage and a convenient train station are available for those with layovers. Customs can be time-consuming, and it is advisable to allow extra time if not having Fast Track access. The Star Alliance lounge is recommended for a great experience. The airport is spacious with plenty of shops, but it can be easy to get lost. Queuing for flights can be long without clear announcements. There have been reports of negative attitudes towards certain passengers at the check-in counters, reflecting a racial bias. Overall, the airport is described as nice, well-organized, and equipped with the expected amenities of an international airport.

Departing:
This time around, we got dropped off at the main terminal and got to stay there. No strange transporting by bus to a small hole in the wall building to get checked in and then transported back to the main terminal. This time around we flew through an Italian airline and the ticket counter employees were so pleasant. Still would rather chat it up with their colleagues than help customers but hey, at least they weren't rude. I'm thinking my last visit, we had to be transported to the sketchy unmarked building to get checked in because it was Delta airline which is American? I can't really think of any other reason.
And this time, we went through customs. Departing not arriving. And I got my stamp! Italy is now on my passport! (You have no idea how happy this made me, I'm sure I jumped up and did a happy kick when my passport was being stamped.)
The seating area for the boarding gate was still overcrowded.
The employees at the boarding gate were still rude.
Otherwise, the entire process of going though checking in, security, customs and finding our gate was seamless. And people were much happier this time around.
