The Herbst Palace Museum is a stunning and opulent place that is a must-see when visiting Łódź. Built in 1876 for the daughter of a prominent entrepreneur, the villa showcases the wealth and influence of the Herbst family. Though it may be called a "house," it is more accurately described as a palace due to its grandeur. The museum features restored interiors that were destroyed during Poland's turbulent times, filled with period pieces and beautiful tiled stoves. The ballroom and mirror room are particularly impressive. In the summer, visitors can also explore the rose gardens and the art gallery, which houses paintings by renowned artists. The museum offers a ticket that allows access to three museums for three days, making it a great value. The park surrounding the palace is also worth a visit, even in winter. Overall, the Herbst Palace Museum is a lovely and peaceful place that offers a glimpse into the history of Łódź and provides a unique and memorable experience. However, it's worth noting that some visitors have reported unpleasant experiences with the staff, particularly with regards to children.

I know nothing about the Herbst family and their history. Nothing at all. But I can tell you this after visiting this place - they were most DEFINITELY extremely wealthy and probably highly influential individuals in the life of Łódź as a city.. Read more ». The richness of detail and opulence on display in that house are something you HAVE TO see! Well, I say "house" but it is definitely a PALACE in the city!
Also worth your attention are the small garden (interesting that wasn't bigger) and the small art gallery also in the grounds.

👉 Currently you can watch the restored interiors of the palace, which was destroyed in the times of Poland. Unfortunately, there is no Herbst family furniture here, but there are period pieces. Beautiful tiled stoves are impressive, just like the ballroom or mirror room 💛 In the summer, it's worth visiting the rose gardens and the art gallery, where the paintings of Gierymski, Matejko, Tetmajer reign. Therefore, I recommend not to give up the ticket to the gallery. Sightseeing time about 2.5 hours

Extremely family-unfriendly (awful attitude to children is complemented by lack of adjustment for prams or people on wheelchairs: I don’t mean just interior of the museum but also the entrance which the staff refused to open for us, although they could, so we had to enter through uncomfortable flight of stairs). Constant hovering over people and barking complements the whole unpleasantness. I was even forbidden from drinking water from my own bottle! The manager was the most unpleasant person (yelled at my little boy for touching the rope). These people should not be paid from taxpayers money. Absolutely awful!

Lovely villa with period interiors. But only a villa with 10-15 lovely rooms. Tiny selection (20?) of fine 19th century Polish paintings in stables. Very good café.

We got here only because it cost 1 PLN for people under 26. The inside of the palace was breathtaking. The palace is smaller than the Poznanski's palace but the rooms were much nicer. Additional art gallery was a nice touch.

The design of the interiors and the new arrangement of the rooms were based on documents from the Office of the Head Conservationist and archival photographic material that was uncovered. New sources of information have enabled preservationists to restore the interiors to what they might have looked like when the Herbst family lived in the Palace.
When in the 1970s the villa of the Herbst family was taken over by the Muzeum Sztuki (Museum of Art) in Łódź to transform it into a functioning exhibition of its interiors, the lack of original furnishings and sufficient documentation were serious challenges. The Palace was initially designed based on much more limited access to information and archival materials. Recent research studies have substantially expanded the Museum's knowledge in these areas.
Following the renovation the rooms in the Palace are more impressive and much closer to the original style. Details have been carefully restored, the furniture in the exhibition has been renovated and the current wallpaper pattern is much more similar to the historical original as well. The exhibition shows lavishly furnished representation halls and private rooms of the owners while new exhibition layout smoothly pulls you into the spirit of the epoch.
