"Derevo Svobody," also known as the "Tree of Freedom," is a stunning monument located in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. It serves as a memorial to the brave individuals who lost their lives during the protests on the Maidan in 2013-14, also known as the Revolution of Dignity. The monument was created by artist-sculptor Borys Danylyuk and features a cherry tree sculpture from which 107 flowers fall, representing each protester who was tragically killed. Standing at an impressive height of five and a half meters, the bronze memorial rests on a pedestal shaped like a map of Ukraine. The monument is beautifully illuminated at night, adding to its visual impact and symbolism. The construction and installation work for the monument began on January 24, 2018, and it was officially unveiled on February 16, 2018. The "Derevo Svobody" monument was funded through charitable donations collected by the "Podilska hromada" foundation and cost around half a million hryvnias. The initiative to erect this memorial came from the NGO "Rodyna Nebesnoi Sotni" and the relatives of the deceased protesters. The Vinnytsia City Council supported the idea, with almost unanimous approval from its deputies. During the monument's unveiling on February 23, 2018, on the fourth anniversary of the protests, the event was kept solemn and personal. Instead of official speeches, the floor was given to Zoya Shymko, the mother of Maksym Shymko, one of the heroes of the Heavenly Hundred from Vinnytsia, who tragically lost his life during the protests. Other family members also had the opportunity to share their thoughts and memories. "Derevo Svobody" stands as a poignant and powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and justice. It serves as a testament to their bravery and the lasting impact of their actions.

Nice, without too much pathos... If only the banner from the theater could be removed somewhere in the other direction
