The Cotroceni National Museum is a fascinating place to visit in Bucharest. It is the former palace of the Romanian rulers and now serves as the official residence of the Romanian President and a museum. The guided tour of the palace is highly recommended, as the tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable. However, it is important to book your tickets in advance, as there are no other options for purchasing them on-site. The palace itself is beautiful, with exquisite rooms and exceptional wood paneling. The tour is available in five languages, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors. It is worth noting that the palace is a distant copy of Pele's and Pelisor castles, with some similarities in certain details. Even if you have visited those castles before, the Cotroceni National Museum is still worth visiting. However, it is advisable to arrive early, as the tours often start slightly earlier than the designated time. The museum is also a part of the Museums Night event in Romania, where all museums are open and admission is free. However, this event can result in long waiting lines and limited access to certain areas of the museum. Therefore, it is recommended to visit on a normal day and book in advance to ensure a complete and enjoyable experience. The Cotroceni National Museum is a must-visit attraction in Bucharest, offering visitors a glimpse into the history and culture of Romania.

Very nice guided tour! There is no other options so tickets/rezervations MUST be done prior to going there. Tour guide was very nice and it is interesting to see the old residence of the Kings of Romania.

Interesting palace. You must book an appointment online beforehand. They have 5 languages for the tour (RO, IT, ENG, FR, SP). We had a reservation for 10am and the group already started the visit 10 minutes before. Might be better to come earlier.

A distant copy of Pele's and Pelisor castles, not in everything, only according to some details.
Definitely worth visiting if even you visited those ones mentioned above

About the museum:
The visit itself was great! We had an awesome and kind host (Adrian) explaining to us every detail about the last Romanian royal couple and how the times were back then (1900-1930s) and how the place itself came together during the years.
Photos/videos are permitted inside the museum, but not in the courtyard.
The wing open to visiting is only a part of the whole Cotroceni Palace. The rest is closed due to it being offices and open only for officials and the president.
There is wheelchair ♿ access as well in all parts of the museum.
Halfway through the museum there is a Hydration area where you can have some water to drink.
Perfect area and point 0 to start if you want to learn about RO culture and heritage.

I do not appreciate that the exterior gardens are so restricted, check out the management of other presidential palaces in European capitals the surroundings of which can be freely roamed (Prague, Stockholm, Copenhagen). The visit is very informative. The palace has great rooms and exhibits, of course a pity for the communist interventions like the ones in the living quarters where rooms were redone French and especially English style. Very good experience for a weekend morning. Still, very expensive for Romania, 90 lei 2 adults and 1 kid.
