Burgtheater, also known as the Imperial Court Theatre, is a historic theater located in the heart of Vienna. It was founded by Empress Maria Theresa and showcases the grandeur of the Baroque style. The building was unfortunately destroyed during World War II but was beautifully reconstructed in the 1950s. The theater's architecture is highly impressive, adorned with columns, busts, and statues, creating a regal atmosphere.
Visiting the Burgtheater is a must for any theater enthusiast. The theater offers a unique experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the ambiance of the past. The Klimt paintings on the ceiling are particularly captivating, adding an artistic touch to the overall beauty of the theater.
If you're a student, you're in luck! You can enjoy the best category tickets at a discounted price by simply presenting your student ID. The first-class lodges are highly recommended for an even more luxurious experience.
Some visitors may have had a negative experience due to a disappointing theater play. The director's attempt to modernize Shakespeare's "The Tempest" was met with mixed reviews. The use of slang and modern songs disrupted the original atmosphere and failed to live up to the intellectual expectations. However, this should not deter you from experiencing the theater itself, as it continues to be a magnificent venue for various performances.
Overall, Burgtheater is a magnificent and stately theater that has played a significant role in Austrian culture. Its location opposite City Hall and its rich history make it a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in theater and architecture. Whether you're admiring the beautiful building or attending a performance, Burgtheater is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Awesome experience! You can really feel the atmosphere and kinda the feeling how it was 100 years ago. I can recommend a visit. Only 4 stars because of the heat and the barely space for long legs ;)

I don't recommend this theater even a bit. I was so excited to watch The Tempest only to receive the worst theater play I had ever seen. The director thought of adding a modern twist to the original play by Shakespeare without spending a single .. Read more »minute on if that would even be a great idea. Well, turns out it ends in absolute ruin. Besides the actors being mediocre, the script of the play was being spoken in slang AND old language. This resulted in ruining the atmosphere Shakespeare had set up with his writing. Then in the scenes the actors just bursted out in random singing, not the original songs but MODERN SONGS like "Fly me to the moon". Further unimportant details were added for the sake of pretentious laughs and important bits of plot were cut. This play didn't promise the intellectual property which I expected. This theater lacks greatly.

They force you to check in the coats but only take cash (also weren't happy with a 10 Euro bill) and they didn't communicate that in a friendly way. Maybe just include it in the ticket price?
