Brama Zuraw
Gdansk, Poland
4.5 / 12
Brama Zuraw, also known as the Old Crane, is an iconic symbol of Gdansk. Despite the destruction suffered during the Second World War, this remarkable medieval structure has been preserved and stands as a testament to the city's history. The engineering behind the crane is fascinating, as it is powered by human labor through a system similar to a hamster wheel. It is worth noting that the individuals operating the wheel are employed by the city and are civil servants, not slaves as some may assume. Inside the crane, there is an interesting museum, although it should be mentioned that most of the information is only available in Polish, which may limit the experience for non-Polish speaking tourists. Nonetheless, visiting Brama Zuraw is a must for anyone interested in exploring the historical sites of Gdansk.
