Batumi synagogue
Batumi, Georgia
4.3 / 56
The Batumi Synagogue is a beautiful example of architecture, built in 1904 and located in the center of Batumi, close to the Sheraton Batumi Hotel. While it was closed when we visited, it is still worth a visit to admire its stunning exterior. The synagogue was closed during the Soviet era but reopened after the fall of communism. It is equipped with a Sukkah and Mikveh, although we were unable to see them as we were not allowed inside. Despite its closure, the synagogue stands as a testament to the Jewish history in Batumi. The staff, although friendly, informed us that it is usually closed. However, a worker kindly let us in to take pictures and see the interior. While the synagogue is small, its beauty is evident. Unfortunately, there is limited information available about its history, but hopefully, tourist information will uncover more details in the future.
