The Amsterdam Museum is a fascinating museum that offers a comprehensive look into the history of the city. Housed in the same building as the Hermitage of Amsterdam, the museum boasts a vast collection of art and artifacts from the last five centuries. These exhibits provide insight into the important events and developments that have shaped Amsterdam.
The museum also features several temporary exhibitions, adding to the diversity of its offerings. For example, one exhibition explores the topic of slavery in Dutch colonies through the use of dolls, providing a thought-provoking perspective on this dark period of history. Another exhibition focuses on fabrics, offering a unique insight into Amsterdam's textile industry.
One of the advantages of visiting the Amsterdam Museum is that it accepts the museumcard, making it accessible and affordable for those who possess one.
While the museum may not be as popular among tourists, it offers a wealth of knowledge and cultural experiences for those who are willing to explore the city's history. It provides a brief and concise overview of Amsterdam's past, from its glory and achievements to its darker origins. Spending 1-2 hours here can be a rewarding experience, especially for history enthusiasts or those interested in deepening their understanding of the city.
Overall, the Amsterdam Museum is a well-curated institution that offers a rich and diverse exploration of Amsterdam's history. Whether you are looking to gain a broader perspective on the city or simply want to immerse yourself in its cultural heritage, this museum is definitely worth a visit.

It was disappointing for a "city museum," especially Amsterdam's.
The experience was poorly designed. For example, the legend for the tens of small silver artefacts was placed in a distance from the showcase. It would require constant .. Read more »moving away from the showcase!
The amount of historical information one would get on WikiPedia is far richer and more detailed than what the museum offers.
The art displayed in the museum does not stand on par with the vibrancy and the level of art actually produced in the city.
Two stars only thanks to the New Amsterdam exhibition that covers the often-overlooked history of the Lenape people.
